First week in the UK – bank account, GP and phone?
I am arriving in Manchester next month for my OSCE and job. What should I do first? I am worried about opening a bank account without a UK address.

Congratulations on your job! A rough order that works for most people: • Day 1: get a UK SIM card (pay-as-you-go is fine to start). • Collect your BRP or set up your eVisa account as instructed by the Home Office. • Bank account: some online banks let you open an account with your passport and visa. Your employer can also give you a letter confirming your address (often hospital accommodation). • Register with a GP near where you live. This is free. Ask your trust's international recruitment team too, they usually have a checklist.
My trust gave us a letter for the bank on the first day. Ask HR before you arrive and it saves a lot of stress.
